Exercise Your Body, Exercise Your Mind

NELMAR recognizes the importance of an active workforce and that exercise has a positive impact on productivity and attitude. Our company has built a large fully equipped fitness center for our employees. You will often find them training in the morning, at lunch hour and even after work. Our signature NELMAR boot camp sessions have quickly become a weekly favorite!
While we are generally aware of the positive physical effects that exercise can have on the human body, many of us might not know about the connection between our innate feeling of happiness and regular exercise.
Physical activity prompts the brain to release two important chemicals associated with positive well-being: endorphins and a protein called Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) (Genetics Home Reference). Endorphins are primarily responsible for fighting stress and can also trigger the feeling of euphoria. BDNF, which also contributes to fighting stress, acts as your brain’s natural “reset switch.” This may explain why we tend to think more clearly and feel calmer after a good workout.
Here’s a powerful idea: An article written by Leo Widrich reveals that “daily exercise can pave the way not only for happiness, but also growth in all other areas of your life”.
What are your thoughts on exercising and happiness?
